The monastery was founded in 1615 on the Podol by the Kiev Brotherhood. Here in 1632 the first higher educational establishment was opened in the Ukrainian lands - the Kiev-Bratsky (Mogilyansky) collegium, which in 1701 by the decree of Peter I received the status of an academy. The main construction works on the territory of the monastery were carried out at the end of the 17th - early 20th centuries. XVIII cent. At the expense of Hetman I. Mazepa in 1690-1693. According to the project of the architect O. Startsev, the Epiphany Cathedral was built (destroyed in 1935). In 1756, according to the architect S. Kovnir's design, a three-tier bell tower was built, which became the architectural dominant of the Kontraktova Square, and in 1829 the bell tower was reconstructed and rebuilt according to the project of architect A. Melensky (destroyed in 1935). In 1817 the academy was closed. Since 1819, the Spiritual Academy began its activity in its premises. Her new academic building (1822-1825) was built according to the project of L. Charlemagne by the architect A. Melensky. In the years 1863-1864. The building was rebuilt in the style of late classicism. Currently, one of the faculties of the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy" is located here.
