The diary consists of fragmentary entries made by Yevgeny Semencov from July 6 to August 21, 1943. The first pages of the notebook contain quotes from the novel by M. Yu. Lermontov "Hero of Our Time". Probably, these undated entries were made before the main text of the diary. Earlier records of the diary are located at the end of the notebook, later - at the beginning of the notebook. The text begins with the words: "July 6, 1943. A sunny bright day, pensive clouds are floating in the sky, chirping of grasshoppers and the buzzing of flies waving near me are heard in the grass ..." (author spelling and punctuation are preserved)
