In 1870, under the leadership of the Russian military engineer A. Struve, the first all-metal railway bridge across the river was built. The Dnieper is one of the longest in Europe in the nineteenth century. Its length was about 1.5 km. This was the first bridge in Russia on a caisson base. Destroyed at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.
