A documentary essay on the creation and combat life of the Fighter Battalion of the Traktorozavodsky District of Stalingrad. The brochure tells how since the organization of the battalion on July 2, 1941, the volunteers were engaged in combat training. The first test of the combat readiness of the battalion was the offensive on August 23, 1942. From the evening of August 23 until dawn on September 2, 1943, volunteers defended the north-western part of Stalingrad - the Tractor Plant, the village of Spartanivka. The author tells about episodes of battles, names the names of living and dead heroes-tractor-workers. In the first days of October the militiamen were stationed in a ravine near the Lower Settlement of the STZ and were barely saved in the bombing and fire of the factory oil depots. Then the Fighter Battalion was withdrawn from the Volga and disbanded - skilled workers went to the evacuated factories, the others - to the ranks of the regular Red Army.
