Originally, the building, erected in 1874 by the architect A. Schille, was intended for the music school of the Kiev branch of the Imperial Russian Musical Society. It was built in the Baroque style. Two floors decorated exotic attic, the roof was crowned by a small turret, the walls were beautifully treated. In 1913, the music school was transformed into a conservatory. In September 1941 the building was blown up. The monument to M. Glinka was designed by the architect V. Nikolayev in the form of a bronze bust on a pedestal of labradorite. It was installed in front of the building of the music school in 1910. Originally stood at the beginning of Prorizna Street. In 1955 he was transferred to the park of the Mariinsky Palace.
