The church was built on funds collected by the gentry of the Kiev province, in honor of the victory of Russia over Napoleon and in memory of the stay of Emperor Alexander I in Kiev. Construction began in 1817, in the early 1830's. was suspended in connection with the Polish insurrection and lack of funds, completed in 1842. The author of the original project was L. Piller, later it was finalized by the architect F. Mehovich. The structure played a big role in the formation of the panorama of the upper city. Now acting.
