"Кіев - Кіеv" with 23 other species photos. - The image is horizontal. - Work on the development of the park began in the 60's. ХІХ century. The development of the project was entrusted to the gardener Carl Christian. Before him was a rather difficult task - despite the small size of the territory, to create a single park complex that would harmonize with the main red building of the university, and with a botanical garden. Karl Christiani successfully coped with the goal, the result of his work was an excellent park in the central part of the city. In order to perpetuate the memory of the Emperor Nicholas I, in many respects contributed to the creation of the University of Kiev, in 1869 in the center of the park, opposite the main building of the university, a monument to the sovereign was erected, and the park was renamed into Nikolayevsky. The monument was not preserved. In 1939, on the site of the monument to Nicholas I, a monument was erected to the outstanding Ukrainian poet, artist and thinker Taras Shevchenko. Now the park bears his name and has an environmental status .
