Nikolsky Gates is a monument of fortification architecture, the main entrance to the territory of the New Pechersk Fortress. Built in the years 1846-1850. under the project of the architect P. Tamansky. We were in a building known as "Barracks on the Isthmus". Solved in the form of two arched thoroughfares to the fortress, decorated with columns with bronze capitals of the Corinthian order. The metal upholstery of the gate was decorated with casting, against which background lion masks were depicted. In front of the pylons there were artistic casting lanterns. At the gate entered a wooden bridge with a lifting section. In the years 1934-1936. the thoroughfare of the Nikolsky Gate was laid. As a result of numerous rearrangements, loopholes for cannons disappeared, instead of which windows appeared.
