The publication of the Central Statistical Committee "Lists of populated areas of the Russian Empire" is a global and systematized multivolume collection of information on the administrative units of Russia in the second half of the XIX century. Each volume of the publication is devoted to a separate province or region and compiled on a single model. Data on populated areas are collected in convenient tables, at the beginning of the volume general information on the province (topographical sketch, historical information, ethnographic and numerical composition of the population, trade, industrial and agricultural information) and its geographical map are presented. The 18th volume contains information on the settlements of the Kostroma province according to the data of 1870-1872.
