The figure depicts a fragment of the battle, for the display of courage in which the sub-ensign of the Life Guards of the Preobrazhensky Regiment Stepan Karpovich Kurtov was awarded the St. George Cross of the 4th degree. During the First World War SK Kurtov was also awarded the St. George Crosses of the 3rd and 2nd degrees .
