The state natural biosphere reserve "Sayano-Shushensky" is located in the inaccessible area of Western Sayan in the south of the Krasnoyarsk Territory along the left bank of the Yenisei River in the zone of influence of the Sayano-Shushensky reservoir. The reserve was created as a constantly observed standard of the virgin part of the Sayan nature, which is under the influence of a powerful anthropogenic factor - the reservoir of the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP formed after the Yenisei overlap in 1975. The area of the reserve is 3904 km \\ u00B2, the mountain relief, with heights from 500 to 2735 The main protected species is the snow leopard. The wildlife of the reserve is extremely diverse, of which almost 100 species are rare, disappearing and included in the Red Book. Most of the reserve is occupied by forests. The main value is the Siberian cedar. The area of the stone pine forests exceeds 1000 km \\ u00B2. It is part of the Association of Reserves and National Parks of the Altai-Sayan Ecoregion.
