The exhibition “Residents of Pskov – Builders of Churches in Russian Towns” was opened at the Pskov Kremlin on November 4 - the National Unity Day. The exhibition is devoted to monuments of religious architecture and fortifications, which were built by Pskov architects between the 16th and 17th centuries outside their home town.

Museums of Russia: The Novgorod Museum-Reserve presented a new museum object - "White (Alekseevskaya) Tower"

April 27, 2018 the Novgorod Museum-Reserve opened for visitors a new museum facility - the White (Alekseevskaya) Tower. It is located on the southern tip of the earthen wall of the Sofia side of Novgorod and is the only preserved stone tower of the city's outer defensive belt of the late XVI-XVII centuries. The tower was erected in 1582-1584, at the same time as the fortifications of the Small Earthen City. It was named after the church of Alexis, a man of God, located nearby.

A new exhibition "Nizhny Novgorod in Engravings and Maps" will mark the 800th anniversary of the capital city on the Volga. It will feature maps of this region, beginning from the XVII century, foreign memoirs about Nizhny Novgorod, the first map of the Volga of 1659 and the first detailed map of the European part of the Russian Empire (12 square meters in size). All documents were provided by Vyacheslav Khurtin, who has been collecting them over a dozen years.

The word “province” began to be used in Russia at the end of the 17th century and meant a governorate. In 1699, by Decree of October 27 “On the establishment of trading companies for merchants, as in other states, on the distribution of cities for trade affairs by provinces, with the subordination of small towns to the main provincial city”, Peter declared three regions provinces with centers in Novgorod, Astrakhan and Pskov.
