Oreanda

In 1825 by he Emperor Alexander I purchased the estate in Oreanda. In 1837 Nicholas I presented Oreanda to his wife Empress Alexandra Feodorovna. In 1852, as per the design of an architect A. I. Shtakenshneider a palace was built in Oreanda, which became the first imperial palace on the southern coast of the Crimea. Assembled on the edge of the cliff rotunda has survived to our days. After the death of his mother, Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich inherited Oreanda. In August 1881, the palace burned down because an absurd accident. In 1884—1885, the Church of the Mantle (Pokrov) of Our Lady was built from the stones of the burnt palace.
