The Presidential Library will answer the question “what does the modern reader need?”

27 May 2014

May 27, on the All-Russian Library Day, the Presidential Library will host a seminar-conference on the website of the Presidential Library.

May 27, 2014 the first national electronic library of Russia celebrates 5th anniversary of opening. That day the Presidential Library is planning a large substantial program that will bring together experienced professionals working in the book and library sectors, writers, journalists and bloggers. Publishers, booksellers, representatives of organizations of culture and art, humanities teachers, methodologists, book authors, illustrators, artists, representatives of the library community , students of library faculties, heads of specialized publications and experts of electronic reading industry, book authors and critics will try to work out specific directions for the development and strengthening of a culture of reading in the contemporary socio-economic conditions. They will consider the examples of domestic and foreign companies, present new projects and initiatives, demonstrate the possibilities of cooperation between industry organizations and particular specialists.

The final result of the whole process of building a culture of reading depends on how well the core agencies interact with their audience, with the reader, how promptly they respond to social changes and preferences of the public. A decisive role in this regard is played by libraries, which today are public spaces, areas for the implementation of creative and intellectual potential of its visitors, sites for cultural events, a rich resource for self-development and self-education. Given these features, the Presidential Library adheres to an integrated approach in its development, establishing numerous partnerships with related organizations, actively participating in the activities of both regional and international level.

That day, the participants will not only discuss topical issues with colleagues, but also visit the unique multifunctional complex of the Presidential Library, which is celebrating its 5th anniversary, have a tour in the historic building of the Holy Synod and be among the first visitors of the exhibition dedicated to St. Petersburg.
