At the Presidential Library they will tell about the life and work of Chekhov

24 February 2015

Video lecture timed to the 155th anniversary of the birth of Anton Chekhov, will be held February 24, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Presidential Library. Video lectures of leading researchers of the life and work of Chekhov will be broadcast online on the website of the Presidential Library under the "Live broadcast."

Chekhov came to the Russian literature, when the Russian classic novel entered a period of crisis. A new reader - a resident of the big cities, intelligent – appeared and together with him came up a new kind of literary hero. Grown from humorous anecdotes and notes for satirical magazines, Chekhov's style, based on observation, precise details, liveliness of language and subtle psychology, gained the author the world fame. It was with his work that a new era in literature and drama started.

Chekhov's works are still relevant; his plays almost don’t need to be adapted. Many literary critics rightly considered the writer founder of modern literature. Vladimir Katayev, Professor, Head of the Department of History of Russian Literature of the Philological Faculty, Moscow State University will tell about the modern Chekhov.

Influence of Chekhov on the 20th century theater and the new drama of the 20th – 21st centuries will be discussed by the candidate of philological sciences, deputy director of the Scientific Library of the North Caucasus Federal University Irina Dubrovina.

The video lecture will be attended by students and faculty of St. Petersburg State Institute of Culture, Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia. Through video-conferencing the video lecture will be available to the staff of the Presidential Library branch in the Tyumen region, libraries in Moscow, Kirov, Irkutsk and Tula State Pedagogical University.
