Publishing and Bookselling: Leipzig Book Fair launched

On March 16, 2011 Leipzig held an official opening ceremony of the Leipzig Book Fair. For visitors, journalists and book industry experts the fair is due from March 17 - 20.

The event in Leipzig has brought together more than 2150 exhibitors from dozens of countries, including Russia. A total of two thousand events are on the program of the fair featuring new publications, programs and new trends in literature. Among them is Europe’s largest reading festival “Leipzig reads”, meetings of writers and readers.

The Leipzig Book Fair held annually since 1946 in recent years has become a major platform for establishing and developing business contacts, one of the most important Europe’s events in the book publishing industry. The fair will bring into focus German-language books by young authors from Central and Eastern Europe, fiction, academic literature and book for specific specialties, qualification improvement programs for teachers, and educational multimedia aids.

Visitors traditionally take a special interest in stands showcasing educational literature for children and young adults, books for children and young adults both physical and talking books. Stands also display art albums, books as works of art, calendars, newspapers and magazines.

Forum’s centerpiece will become the “Leipzig Book Fair Award” ceremony.
