Electronic libraries: The Don electronic library has been enriched with new collections to the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Rostov region

The Don electronic library has been enriched with new collections, prepared to the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Rostov region form the Nazis – “Don: from occupation to liberation” and “Fire miles: through cities and villages of Don”.

The collection features digital copies from the collection of the Don State Public Library, the State Archive of the Rostov region, the Documentation Center of the recent history of the Rostov region, the Azov Historical and Archaeological and Paleontology Museum Reserve, the A. S. Pushkin Novocherkassk Central City Library reflecting the events of the period from occupation of the region (October 1941) till the first steps in its recovery (December 1943).

The composition of the documents is varied: reports of the Soviet Information; documents of archives; books; articles; cartographic publications; photographs; posters; leaflets; newspapers of 1943 (“Komsomolskaya Pravda”, “Molot”, local newspapers of 50 regional territories)’ materials of the occupation authorities.

A separate section is dedicated to the editions of the front years of the Rostov Book publishing house. 

The collection will be updated annually. During the year the project plans to join central libraries of the city and districts of the region, which at their web sites will enrich the collection “Fire miles: through cities and villages of Don” with materials from district newspapers and editions, issued on the territory of the region. 

At the same time from January 30, 2013 at the web site of the Don State Public Library in the section “Day in the history of Don” is published a daily chronicle of events in the region in February-December 1943. The basis of the Chronicle reports the Soviet Information and publications in the central, regional and local newspapers in 1943. This kind of “photo of the day” is a valuable source of documentary information and allows seeing the day-to-day daily life of the area in 1943.
