Society and book culture: The IV National Congress of bookplates in Vologda

From August 22-25, 2013 in the Museum and creative center “House of Korbakov” in Vologda is held the IV National Congress of bookplates.

The program of the congress will include the opening of a National Exhibition of Contemporary bookplate. In the halls of the gallery there will be shown more than 1,000 bookplates by 120 artists from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and other cities of Russia - from Kaliningrad to Khabarovsk, and from Anadyr to Novorossiysk. The works by masters of prints of the former Soviet Union now living in Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan, as well as guests from Greece, Germany, Israel and the United States will be also exhibited. All works sent to Congress are transferred free as a gift to a special fund of bookplates of the Regional Art Gallery.

As part of the congress in Vologda, 9 special exhibitions of national and foreign prints will be shown.

The program of the congress includes reports and presentations on bookplates topics, presentations of new products, albums and catalogs. All events of the congress are free and open for visitors. Artists, collectors, bibliophiles, historians, art lovers are invited.

The regular National meeting of a bookplate in Vologda is conceived by the organizers as an important preparatory stage for carrying out here in 2016 of the XXXVI World Congress of bookplates.

The bookplate, or a specially designed book sign, long and widely known throughout the world among artists, art lovers, bibliophiles and collectors. In Vologda the art of engraved bookplates started in the early XX century, and became well known in the second half of the last century. Today, the regional art gallery assembles one of the best museum collections of modern Russian book sign, here are regularly held exhibitions by leading artists of this particular genre - the author’s prints of small forms.
