World history: The exhibition “Scandinavians and Rus’. Reconstruction” in Yaroslavl

12 February 2016 the Yaroslavl Museum-Preserve invites you to get acquainted with the new exhibition "Scandinavians and Russia. Reconstruction".

A new exhibition has been prepared in conjunction with the Yaroslavl club of historical reconstruction «Katthund» and club of living history "Squad "Rarog" selfless deeds that provided the reconstructed objects of the era of IX-XIII centuries. These are Scandinavian and Slavic women's and men's suits, various household items of daily use military equipment. Various crafts are also presented.

Visitors are introduced to the culture and life of the Scandinavians, living on the territory of Yaroslavl region in the IX-X centuries. Scandinavians lived in Timireva settlement on the banks of the river Kotorosl (modern territory Karabihsky rural settlement), and played a leading role in the military organization of the life of this medieval trade and administrative and military center, is closely associated with the Volga trade route. Detailed reconstruction of the daily life of the Scandinavians was made possible thanks to the numerous archaeological excavations and research.

At the exhibition was reflected the later period in the history of the region - XIII century, when the role of immigrants from Scandinavia has faded, and the domination of the Slavs in the Yaroslavl land was indisputable.

Chronology of the new exhibition "Scandinavia and Rus’. Reconstruction" almost completely coincides with the time interval of the museum's exhibition "From the time of Yaroslav…", and it can be seen as a kind of addition, an illustration of the authentic archaeological objects presented in the historical section.
