The Presidential Library's video lecture "Exploring Sakhalin"

On April 27, 2024 the lecture "Exploring Sakhalin", dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the formation of Sakhalin State University, was held in the Presidential Library as part of the video lecture Knowledge of Russia.

Elena Lisitsyna, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Russian and Universal History of Sakhalin State University, spoke about the higher educational institution developing, the stages of its formation, the current state and prospects.

In 1949, four years after the end of World War II, the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Teachers' Institute was established in the south of the island with a two-year term of study. In 1954, it was transformed into the State Pedagogical Institute, where teachers were trained in six specialties at three faculties. In 1998, by decision of the Government of the Russian Federation, the university received the status of a classical university. Today, Sakhalin State University is the main forge of specialists for all spheres of activity in the Sakhalin region.
