Video lessons on Presidential Library portal tell story of World War II

26 August 2025

The Presidential Library portal offers video lessons on the history of World War II. This project is the result of cooperation between the Presidential Library and the Gorchakov Lyceum of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO).

Video lessons prepared by teachers at Gorchakovsky Lyceum and library specialists recount the events of 1933–1945 based on a collection of documents entitled World War II in Archival Documents, which is being compiled by the Presidential Library in conjunction with the Federal Archival Agency.

The scientific supervisor of the project was Anatoly Torkunov, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The authors of the idea were Yuri Nosov, Director General of the Presidential Library, and Ilya Demakov, Director of the Gorchakov Lyceum at MGIMO.

Twenty-eight video lessons have been prepared, which can be found in the section "Presidential Library – For Teachers: Teaching with Primary Sources." As part of each lesson, students are asked questions so that they can test their knowledge and delve deeper into the historical era.

Each video lesson contains internet links (QR codes) that provide easy access to historical documents stored in the Presidential Library's collection. The use of reliable primary sources in teaching and education is an essential condition for historical enlightenment, the preservation of historical memory, countering the falsification of history, and the formation of an information space that contributes to the strengthening of patriotism and spiritual and moral values.

The implementation of the project dedicated to the history of World War II was made possible thanks to an agreement between the Presidential Library and MGIMO. An electronic reading room of the Presidential Library has been opened at the Gorchakov Lyceum of MGIMO. Lyceum students and teachers have access to the entire collection of the Presidential Library, which includes documents and archival materials on Russian history. Other educational and outreach projects aimed at promoting Russia's historical and cultural heritage are also being implemented as part of the agreement.

The Presidential Library regularly holds interactive lessons and video lectures, detailed information about which is available on the institution's portal in the sections Multimedia Lessons, Video Lectures and Video Lectures for Schools, which feature recordings of past lectures and open lessons.
