Exhibition about famous architect Ivan Kuznetsov opened at Reserve Centre of Presidential Library

12 September 2025

On September 12, 2025, the Reserve Center of the Presidential Library hosted the grand opening of the exhibition "Moscow Architect Ivan Kuznetsov."

The exhibition is dedicated to the work of renowned architect Ivan Sergeyevich Kuznetsov (1867–1942). Materials for the exhibition were provided by the Museum and Exhibition Center of the city of Elektrostal in the Moscow Region.

The location for the exhibition was not chosen at random – Kuznetsov was the architect of the Business Court building and hotel on Slavyanskaya Square in Moscow, which now houses the Reserve Center of the Presidential Library.

Ivan Sergeyevich Kuznetsov is a prominent representative of that generation of Moscow architects whose work at the beginning of the century enriched the architectural history of the capital with a number of extraordinary buildings. His undeniable talent and energy made Kuznetsov one of Moscow's most prolific architects.

Over his long creative career, Ivan Sergeyevich designed architectural structures for a wide variety of purposes: mansions, country houses, apartment buildings, administrative buildings, churches, almshouses, educational institutions, hospitals, and sanatoriums. His projects were distinguished by their scale, high level of craftsmanship, and exquisite execution.

Kuznetsov was heavily involved in industrial architecture. Between 1914 and 1917 alone, he built several military factories comprising more than a thousand buildings.

In 1916, based on the architect's designs and under his direct supervision, construction began on the Bogorodsky Equipment Plant on a plot of land near the Zatishye railway junction owned by Nikolai Alexandrovich Vtorov, founder of the city of Elektrostal. In the 1920s, I. S. Kuznetsov was the architect of the Elektrostal plant.

The exhibition features drawings, sketches, photographs of buildings constructed by the architect before the revolution and during the Soviet period, as well as photographs from the family archive of Ivan Sergeevich Kuznetsov.

The exhibition at the Presidential Library Reserve Center will run until October 31, 2025.

The exhibition is open on weekdays from 9:00 to 17:00.
