Representatives of the Presidential Library attended the meeting of the heads of Rossotrudnichestvo missions

3 September 2012, a delegation of the Presidential Library visited the press center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow to attend the meeting of the heads of the missions of Rossotrudnichestvo and its representatives.

The plenary session was also attended by the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, D. A. Medvedev; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, S. V. Lavrov and the Minister of Culture, V. R. Medinsky. The addresses were devoted to the discussion of Russia’s place in the globalizing world and the main areas of development of Rossotrudnichestvo’s activities.

The key points of the agenda of the meeting were the issues of promotion of a positive image of Russia in the world, expansion of Russian cultural presence. In his speech, D. A. Medvedev noted that in order to maintain and strengthen Russian cultural impact in the world, it is indispensable to use as fully as possible new information and communication facitlities.

During the meeting were discussed the issues of support of Russian language and further strengthening of relations with compatriots living abroad.

At the plenary session, Director General of the Presidential Library, A. P. Vershinin presented the experiences and perspectives of interaction between the library and Rossotrudnichestvo to establish access to information resources in the electronic environment. He noted that within two years there has been gained practical information-technological and information-analytical experience of access to relevant resources. Such experience, he noted in his speech, shows that we can and must move to a higher level of interaction between the Presidential Library and Rossotrudnichestvo, for example: through targeted programs, both in terms of technological equipment of Russian centers of science and culture, and in order to enhance information-analytical activities (through the Foreign Ministry archives, Russian holdings abroad, etc.).

The participants of the meeting were heads of federal legislative and executive authorities, representatives of leading Russian cultural institutions, public figures and journalists. According to the organizers, this kind of meetings becomes especially important in the context of significant tasks defined by the country's leaders, for the implementation of the foreign policy of the Russian Federation.

The meeting will last until September 4.
