The Presidential Library is planning to establish its branch office in Grozny

The first branch of the Presidential Library in the North Caucasian Federal District will open in Grozny. It will be housed by the National Library of the Chechen Republic. The negotiations on this issue were held 2-3 July; they were carried out on behalf of the head of the Administrative Department of the President of Russia, Vladimir Kozhin, and the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov.

During his working visit to Grozny, Deputy Director General of the Presidential Library, Vyacheslav Beresnev met with the Minister of Culture of the Chechen Republic, Dikalu Muzakayev, heads of administration of the head and of the government of the region. The talks were also attended by the Director of the National Library of the Chechen Republic, Edilbek Khasmagomadov, heads of executive authorities of the region and representatives of the Presidential Library.

The delegation of the Presidential Library visited and studied the future location of the branch office - the National Library in Grozny. Provided information, technological, methodological support, the site may become a cultural and educational center for the entire North Caucasus. The National Library of the Chechen Republic, located in a modern five-storey building of 18, 000 square meters, has the necessary facilities. The leaders of the republic actively and willingly began work on the installation in its premises a branch of one of the three national libraries of Russia, offering the rooms on the second floor of the National Library of the Republic making over 100 square meters. 

Minister of Culture of the Chechen Republic in the course of the meeting appraised the efficiency of the Administrative Directorate of the President of Russia, in charge of which is the Presidential Library in St. Petersburg. Dikalu Muzakayev underlined: "The implementation of the new building of the National Library of the Chechen Republic is an important milestone in the revival of our region as a dynamic entity of the Russian Federation. It is possible to create the Republican branch of the Presidential Library including the digital centre for readers’ registration, a meeting room, a center of scanning and the electronic reading room with 100 workstations. This is what we said to Vladimir Kozhin, when we opened the National Library. The organization immediately began in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Grozny. A short time later, we see the beginning of practical, particular measures. "

 

Vyacheslav Beresnev stressed that by order of the head of state, the Presidential Library should have its representative offices in all regions of Russia. Creating a cultural and educational center in Grozny will be an important project for the whole of the North Caucasus.

The interaction will develop in different areas, including the training of librarians of the Chechen Republic to work with modern electronic catalogs. In the framework of the cooperation, documents and books from the collections of the National Library of Chechnya are going to be digitized and made publicly available. This will enable more comprehensive coverage of the peculiarity of the region in the family of Russia, provide objective information about the life and development of the country.

The Presidential Library, opened in 2009 in St. Petersburg, is now the largest in the country informative, innovative and cultural center, a national repository of materials on the history of Russia. Its electronic holdings account for more than 260,000 items, some of them are unique documents, books, films and photos. Today, a significant part of the Presidential Library is represented by regional materials.

Opening access to unique resources of the first national digital library of the country is important for the North Caucasus, for youth education, unification of intellectuals. This would also allow deeper research by local scientists, students and graduate students, it will open to schoolchildren the way to knowledge through contests, competitions and lectures of the Presidential Library.

In total, more than 40 regional centers and one branch office of the Presidential Library are now open in the Russian Federation.
