The Presidential Library is open for the youth

27 June 2014

The Presidential Library as part of its overall activities is actively implementing its own educational projects.

One of the most ambitious projects is the annual interactive Olympiad in history, social studies and Russian language for high school students, "Russia in the Electronic World." Students from all regions of Russia participate in the event. The main objectives of the Olympiad is to interest the younger generation in the history of their homeland, develop a sense of responsibility for the preservation and development of the Russian state, as well as find young talents, regardless of where lives a student: in a big city or a small village.

This year, the first multimedia lesson timed to the 20th anniversary of the Constitution of the Russian Federation was held. It was attended by students from 80 schools of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region. During the interactive lesson, high school students were presented historical and contemporary documents, as well as photos and videos, related to the history of Russian constitutionalism. The next year, the Presidential Library plans to organize multimedia lessons on the classics of Russian literature.

Another important activity of the Presidential Library is the Cinema Club meetings. The meetings are intended to discuss online the movies, many of which have just been released or were undeservedly forgotten. Video lectures "Knowledge about Russia" are regularly held in order to attract attention of pupils and students to important issues of the Russian statehood. The lectures traditionally involve famous teachers, scientists, scholars, statesmen, and are broadcast live on the library’s website. The website also makes available the library’s own videos, films about the exhibitions. Since September last year, the Presidential Library’s website has been broadcasting the best domestic and popular science films, educational and documentary films released in the last decade by "Lennauchfilm" film studio as well as the St. Petersburg Documentary Film Studio.

In April 2014, the Presidential Library first took part in the job fair, held in the framework of the Week of the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics, St. Petersburg State University in Petrodvorets. Due to the presence of the Presidential Library at the event, the students, namely programmers, historians, philosophers, journalists learned about the facilities of the library.

June 9, 2014, the Presidential Library launched the Fifth Annual International Photo Contest "Foreign View", which is open for both professional photographers and amateurs, regardless of age and nationality. The contest will bring together photos made by foreigners in Russia and those taken by Russians abroad. At the end of the contest there will traditionally be released a photo album, and the best shots will join the collections of the first electronic national library of Russia.
