"Foreign View" – is a view through the lens of history, culture and way of life of another country. The contest welcomes photos from abroad made by Russians, and photographs of Russia made by foreigners. The theme of the contest this year - "The Power of the people's diplomacy" – is not chosen by chance, because today the state diplomacy is often powerless in the world events and challenges. Meanwhile, people continue a dialogue on the traditions, culture, protecting their interests. The first nomination of the photo contest is devoted to the same theme.

The photo contest of the Presidential Library was originally conceived as a project designed to reflect the broader picture of social, economic and cultural integration of the peoples of the world, interesting, both Russian and foreign audience. The first photo contest "Foreign View" (2010) was proposed in the framework of the International Forum "Dialogue: Russia - Republic of Korea". For 5 years a competition themes were: "The State in the XXI century" (2011), "The State of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" (2012), "Language in a Changing World" (2013). The albums of the best photos are presented in the Presidential Library collection.

It is important that nominations cover all the aspects of society and the state and represent opportunities for potential participants. "Modern technology", "Germany in the eyes of Russians, Russia in the eyes of Germans", "From the depths of history", "Borders and space", "Customs and traditions", "Japan in the eyes of Russians", "Nostalgia" - these are just some nominations submitted for 5 years. This year's contestants are offered the following topics: "Brazil: Far and Close", "Man and the digital age", "The attraction of the unknown: the theme of the road", "Listening to the language of nature", "Revived footage" and "Master Class".

Every year the photo contest is attracting more and more audience, it becomes wider in geography of the participating countries, which for the duration of the contest, are over 30. The jury of the photo contest increasingly notes the originality of pictures, the uniqueness of those emotions that are managed to be captured. The inspiration of authors, their skills, a new look at familiar things, and finally, the first attempts to find the artistic expression of their ideas, to convey the uniqueness of each moment resonate like the youngest participants, and mature audiences.
