22 June 2015

Commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory, over 20, 000 periodicals of the wartime joined electronic holdings of the Presidential Library. On the eve of the Day of Memory and Grief, June 22, the first national electronic library of the country selected a set of periodicals, which provided information about the attack of Nazi Germany against the Soviet Union.

Among the selected papers there are: "Moscow Bolshevik," "Defending the Motherland," "Smena," "The Battle for the Motherland," "The Road of Battle" and others. For example, the Presidential Library website features the paper "Defending the Motherland" of 23 June 1941. The article "Death to the enemy!" read: "This is an event that will go down in world history as a symbol of international treachery, duplicity and perfidy. When peaceful flourishing cities and villages of our country were asleep, to continue in the morning their heroic struggle for human happiness, the fascist planes dropped bombs on our people. It happened at the end of the night, the hour, which the killers had always chosen for their bloody deeds. To a long roll of Nazi crimes was added another one... We will remember the date of this heinous raid: 22 June 1941."

Catalogue "The first period of the Great Patriotic War" is widely presented on the website and in electronic reading rooms of the Presidential Library. In contains documents, various periodicals, newsletters, books, memoirs and other materials related to the selected period.
