December 2, 2016 in the Presidential Library under the chairmanship of President of Russia Vladimir Putin was held a joint meeting of the Presidential Council of the Russian Federation on Culture and Arts and of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation on the Russian language. 

As part of the topic "Unity of Russian culture - national unity - the unity of the country", the participants discussed the current problems of the cultural development of Russia and identified tasks for the near future. It were also discussed the issues of support and increase of the participation of social organizations, movements and voluntary associations in the implementation of the state cultural policy, the development of regional theaters and cinema production centers, combining the efforts of the state and society in addressing the challenges of literary education, familiarizing citizens to the Russian classical literature.

During the meeting were summed up results of the year that by Presidential Decree has been declared the Year of the Russian cinema.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin has assured that the state will continue to support socially significant cultural projects.

"We will certainly continue to actively support the large, socially important projects in the field of culture, our leading creative teams and specialized educational institutions", - promised the head of state.

According to Putin, "to engage in the world of high, meaningful art to a wider audience, especially young people, one state support, of course, is not enough". The President is convinced: "We need new, original formats and reading the classics in the cinema, in the theater, and television, and in social networks".

Putin pointed out that "the challenge for the masters of culture - to be able to create a modern product, to preserve the integrity of the original content, its moral and ethical message, the richness and imagery of our language".

The President of Russia also noted that Russians increasingly began to choose "intelligent" leisure and that the number of museum visitors has reached 120 million people a year.

"In the past few years to strengthen the status of the Russian language and literature has been done much", - stated the Head of State at a joint meeting of the Council for Culture and Arts and the Russian Language Council. According to him, "more and more people prefer meaningful, if I may say so - "smart" leisure".
