26 April (9 May) 1910 Nikolai Vasilyevich Chikharev was born, Hero of the Soviet Union (1944), veteran of the Great Patriotic War, who took part in battles on the Southern, Transcaucasian, North Caucasian, Stepnoy and 2nd Ukrainian Fronts, as well as in forcing the Dnieper.

May 9, 1944, during the Crimean offensive, Soviet troops liberated Sevastopol.

On May 11, 1945 in the course of Prague Offensive (6-11 May 1945) the troops of the 1st, 2nd and 4th Ukrainian fronts completed the liberation of Czechoslovakia.

12 мая 1944 года завершилась Крымская стратегическая наступательная операция, в ходе которой за 35 суток был освобождён от оккупации Крымский полуостров – важный стратегический плацдарм на Черноморском театре военных действий, и разгромлена оборонявшая его немецкая 17-я армия генерал-полковника Э. Енеке. В честь этого события с 2023 года 12 мая признано Днём воинской славы России.
