The Order of St. Alexander Nevsky established

1 June 1725

On May 21 (June 1), 1725 under Peter’s the Great testament and the supreme order of Catherine I was established one of the highest awards of the Russian Empire – the Order in honor of Saint Lord and Master Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky.

Birthday anniversary of Nikolai N. Burdenko, Soviet surgeon, one of the founders of neurosurgery

22 May (3 June) 1876 in Kamenka village, Nizhnelomovsky County, Penza Province was born Nikolai N. Burdenko , a surgeon, a pioneer of Soviet neurosurgery, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1939) and the first president of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1944-46), honorary member of the Royal Society of Surgeons and the Paris Academy of Surgery; Hero of Socialist Labor (1943), winner of the Stalin Prize (1941), Colonel-General of medical services (1944).
 

Anniversary of the Brusilov Offensive

4 June 1916

On May 22 (June 4) 1916 during the World War I was launched one of the largest offensive operations of the Russian Army on the Southwestern front, which enabled to undertake a strategic breakthrough of the enemy’s front —  called “the Brusilov Offensive”.

May 27 (June 8) 1837, in St. Petersburg, in the family of the chief master of ceremonies of the Imperial Court was born Hilarion Ivanovich Vorontsov-Dashkov, count, Russian statesman and military leader, entrepreneur, General of Cavalry (1890); a member of the State Council of the Russian Empire (1881), Chief state horse breeding, the Minister of the Imperial Court and the Chancellor of the Chapter of Russian Imperial and Royal Orders (1881-1897), viceroy of the Caucasus (1905).
 

Statute of workers’ and peasants’ militia adopted

10 June 1920

June 10, 1920 the All-Russian Central Executive Committee and the CPC of the RSFSR adopted the first provision of the workers’ and peasants’ militia, which compiled and legislated experience in building militia (police), obtained in the first years of Soviet power.
