During the Great Patriotic War, representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church and believers actively supported the Red Army. They reported it personally to Joseph Stalin. This fact is stated in the unique archival documents that have entered the Presidential Library's holdings.

One of the published documents is a certificate from the Council for the Affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church under the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR of funds collected by the clergy and believers of the city of Moscow. It follows that in March 1944, the clergy and ordinary parishioners in Moscow alone collected 1 million rubles and deposited them in the State Bank. The money was collected for the construction of airplanes.
