New documents from the personal archives of residents of besieged Leningrad entered the Presidential Library's collections

January 27, 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi siege. By this date, the Presidential Library’s collections entered with new materials from the family archives of the Ivanov-Rozhnovskys, Malakhovs, and Kulikovs. These are documents, photographs, letters, memories and diaries of residents of the besieged city. The materials are available on the library's portal and can be accessed from anywhere in the world.

On February 9, 2024, 80 documents from the Russian State Archive of Economics (RGEA) and 15 thematic collections of documents from the Russian State Archive in Samara (RGA in Samara), relating to the period from November 19, 1942 to November 7, 1944, entered the Collection “World War II in Archival Documents” presented on the Presidential Library's portal.

Presidential Library celebrates 20th anniversary of Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God's return to Russia

On July 9th, the Orthodox world will be celebrating a great church holiday - the Day of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God. This year, the celebrations will be especially significant, as it marks the 20th anniversary of the return of one of the most revered Orthodox icons to Russia. During the Great Patriotic War, the Tikhvin icon was taken to Riga and then to the United States, where it remained for 60 years before returning to its rightful place in the Tikhvin Dormition Monastery in Russia.

And so, he created this new socialist art himself. In fact, starting not with poetry but with painting, the talent of the artist began to emerge in Mayakovsky from an early age. On July 19, the anniversary of the birth of the poet, playwright, actor, and artist, Vladimir Mayakovsky (1893-1930) is celebrated.

Presidential Library marks 270th anniversary of Emperor Paul I

270 years ago, on October 1st, 1754, Paul I, the future emperor of Russia, was born. He was born at the Summer Palace of Elizaveta Petrovna, and 46 years later, he was killed as a result of a conspiracy at the Mikhailovsky Castle, which had been built on the very same site. Contemporaries remembered that Pavel had repeatedly stated that he wished to die where he was born, and by a mysterious coincidence, this came to pass.

The Presidential Library's collection has been enriched with electronic copies of historical documents, including those related to the Great Patriotic War period. The Samara Regional Universal Scientific Library transferred to the Presidential Library 67 posters about performances and concerts held in Kuibyshev (now Samara) from 1941 to 1946 for digitization.

Books from library of Peter the Great featured in collection of Presidential Library

The Presidential Library's collection has been enriched with digital copies of rare books from the library of Peter the Great. These books were transferred by the Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences for digitization. Now, 22 of these old books are available for reading in the electronic reading room of the Presidential Library. These are both manuscripts and printed books in Russian.

The World War II in Archival Documents collection on the Presidential Library's portal has been expanded with digitized documents related to the partisan movement during 1942-1944, which were provided by the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (NARB), the Central Archives of the Federal Security Service of Russia, and the Russian State Archive for Socio-Political History.
