The 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 will be widely celebrated in Russia in 2020. President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a decree “On the Year of Remembrance and Glory in the Russian Federation”.

February 8, 2020 marks the 186th anniversary of Dmitri Mendeleev’s birth, the great scientist and chemist who discovered the Periodic Law of Chemical Elements; an encyclopedist and a statesman who had all his original and comprehensive eyes. January 27, 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi siege. By this date, the Presidential Library’s collections entered with new materials from the family archives of the Ivanov-Rozhnovskys, Malakhovs, and Kulikovs. These are documents, photographs, letters, memories and diaries of residents of the besieged city. The materials are available on the library's portal and can be accessed from anywhere in the world.

On February 9, 2024, 80 documents from the Russian State Archive of Economics (RGEA) and 15 thematic collections of documents from the Russian State Archive in Samara (RGA in Samara), relating to the period from November 19, 1942 to November 7, 1944, entered the Collection “World War II in Archival Documents” presented on the Presidential Library's portal. 

March 29, 2024 marks the 145th anniversary of the premiere of one of Tchaikovsky’s main masterpieces, the opera "Eugene Onegin". The composer worked on it in Russia, Switzerland, Italy, France... The work immediately won national fame, despite the composer’s doubts.

The International Dance Day is celebrated on April 29. The portal of the Presidential Library presents books, photographs, video lectures, and scientific research on this topic in electronic form.

On July 9th, the Orthodox world will be celebrating a great church holiday - the Day of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God. This year, the celebrations will be especially significant, as it marks the 20th anniversary of the return of one of the most revered Orthodox icons to Russia. During the Great Patriotic War, the Tikhvin icon was taken to Riga and then to the United States, where it remained for 60 years before returning to its rightful place in the Tikhvin Dormition Monastery in Russia.

"Give me new art!" Vladimir Mayakovsky cried in his famous poem, "Order No. 2 of the Army of Art." "I want to create socialist art," he wrote in his autobiography, "Myself." And so, he created this new socialist art himself. In fact, starting not with poetry but with painting, the talent of the artist began to emerge in Mayakovsky from an early age. On July 19, the anniversary of the birth of the poet, playwright, actor, and artist, Vladimir Mayakovsky (1893-1930) is celebrated.

On August 14, 2024, the 80th anniversary of the formation of Tyumen region will be celebrated. For many years, this region and the Presidential Library have successfully developed close cooperation aimed at preserving and promoting the historical and cultural heritage of Russia.

30 years ago, in August 1994, the Day of the National Flag of the Russian Federation was officially established by presidential decree. Since then, the holiday has been celebrated annually on August 22th.

On September 18, 2024 at 10:00, the online webinar I Am Proud to Be Russian: The Life and Work of Commander Alexander Suvorov will be broadcast on the portal of the Presidential Library. This event is timed to coincide with the 225th anniversary of the heroic march of the Russian army under the command of Alexander Suvorov through the Alps, which took place from September 21st to October 8th, 1799.

270 years ago, on October 1st, 1754, Paul I, the future emperor of Russia, was born. He was born at the Summer Palace of Elizaveta Petrovna, and 46 years later, he was killed as a result of a conspiracy at the Mikhailovsky Castle, which had been built on the very same site. Contemporaries remembered that Pavel had repeatedly stated that he wished to die where he was born, and by a mysterious coincidence, this came to pass.

On September 30th, 2024, the day of the Reunification of the Donetsk People's Republic, Lugansk People's Republic, Zaporozhye, and Kherson regions with the Russian Federation will be celebrated.

On the portal of the Presidential Library of the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation, a constantly updated electronic collection of documents called Russia - Belarus: the History of Relations is freely available for everyone.

The Presidential Library's collection has been enriched with electronic copies of historical documents, including those related to the Great Patriotic War period. The Samara Regional Universal Scientific Library transferred to the Presidential Library 67 posters about performances and concerts held in Kuibyshev (now Samara) from 1941 to 1946 for digitization.

In 2025, a significant date will be celebrated - the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

The Presidential Library's collection has been enriched with digital copies of rare books from the library of Peter the Great. These books were transferred by the Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences for digitization. Now, 22 of these old books are available for reading in the electronic reading room of the Presidential Library. These are both manuscripts and printed books in Russian.

On November 16, 2024, the 150th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Kolchak will be celebrated, a prominent figure in Russian history. For a long time, his name has been associated with the White movement during the Russian Civil War, and other aspects of his life have been largely unknown to the public. However, Alexander was also an exceptional oceanographer, hydrologist, and geographer. He was a fearless explorer of the polar regions.

On January 22, 2024 the Presidential Library hosted the grand opening of two exhibitions dedicated to the Russian Navy. The creation of the exhibitions is timed to coincide with the 300th anniversary of the foundation of the Russian State Archive of the Navy. The anniversary date will be celebrated on January 28, 2024.

On May 7, 1840, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, the great Russian composer, was born in the small town of Votkinsk. He will carry his love for his parents, father Ilya and mother Alexandra, through his whole life. The surprisingly warm relations that prevailed in this family are described in the publications posted on the portal of the Presidential Library.

On June 12th, our country celebrates Russia Day. This day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian SFSR in 1990. The document declared the primacy of the RSFSR Constitution and its laws, which marked a significant step towards the independence of Russia.

The World War II in Archival Documents collection on the Presidential Library's portal has been expanded with digitized documents related to the partisan movement during 1942-1944, which were provided by the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (NARB), the Central Archives of the Federal Security Service of Russia, and the Russian State Archive for Socio-Political History.
