The Pushkins’ family values to discuss at the Presidential Library's conference

The annual conference and webinar “Alexander Pushkin Memorial Day in the Presidential Library” will be held on February 9, 2024 at 10:00 at Senate Square, 3. The event is dedicated to the 225th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian poet, which will be celebrated this year, and is held as part of the Year of the Family, declared by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

The noble family of Pushkin is one of the oldest in Russia, the roots of its family tree go back to medieval Rus', and the poet’s descendants now live on almost all continents. The Pushkin family tree currently unites more than 200 representatives of the genus, which is about 58 branches, 58 different surnames.

The purpose of the webinar and conference in the Presidential Library is to promote the preservation and study of the historical experience of the formation of traditional Russian spiritual and moral values, as well as the promotion of documentary sources, information resources, cultural heritage objects from the collections of the Presidential Library and the Pushkin All-Russian Museum. 

Conference and webinar “Alexander Pushkin Memorial Day in the Presidential Library" is intended to reflect the family values of several generations of Pushkins, life, traditions, and peculiarities of perception of life. Issues of a healthy lifestyle, financial support for the family, as well as the phenomenon of giftedness and the role of mentoring in Pushkin’s life will be addressed.

At the event, famous scientists, Pushkin scholars, local historians, and employees of federal educational, scientific and cultural institutions will speak to cadets, students of secondary and higher educational institutions in St. Petersburg.

Participants of the webinar and conference will meet with a descendant of Pushkin, who lives in St. Petersburg, will see a photographic image of the poet created as part of the project by scientists based on a death mask using 3D modeling, and will be able to share their family history associated with the name of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin.

The conference and webinar is free. The meeting will be broadcast on the Presidential Library’s portal in Live Broadcasts section in accordance with the program of live events, on the Rutube-channel of the institution, as well as on the social networks VKontakte and Odnoklassniki.

The Presidential Library's portal features the collection Alexander Pushkin (1799–1837). It includes digital copies of books, articles, archival documents, dissertation abstracts, videos, visual and other materials telling about the life and career of the poet and the activities of the state to preserve his memory. A large place in the collection belongs to articles from pre-revolutionary periodicals, allowing one to see how attitudes towards Pushkin and his works changed over time. Of interest are the materials dedicated to the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the poet’s birth.
