13 (25) September 1826 near the town of Yelizavetpol a separate Caucasian corps under the leadership of Ivan Feodorovich Paskevich defeated 35 000-strong army of Crown Prince Abbas Mirza, disposing of just 8 000 Russian soldiers and 22 guns.

The Smolensk-Moscow direction was the prime target of Hitler’s Army attack.

14 (26) September 1869 in Sevastopol, on the initiative of the direct participants of 349-day defense of Sevastopol, and under the patronage of Emperor Alexander II was founded one of the oldest museums in Russia - the Black Sea Fleet Museum.
 

Konstantin Staritsky, a scientist, hydrographer, explorer of seas in the Far East, rear admiral, was born on September 14 (26), 1839 in Poltava into the family of a retired lieutenant of naval artillery, who came from a noble family of Poltava Governorate.
