We keep on acquainting readers with the regions of our vast country. An individual collection of the Presidential Library spotlights Tula Region – a constituent entity of the Russian Federation, which is famous for pryaniks, samovars and weapons.

“If anyone wants to portray Potyomkin accurately, he may be presented as the genuine emblem of the Russian Empire...” – reads the book “Life, characteristics, military and political deeds of the general field marshal Prince Potyomkin of Taurida” (1805) by G. M. Yatsenkov and A. F. Smirdin.

Rightfully seeing himself as a successor to the Russian symphony school, Dmitri Shostakovich was anxious to avoid stereotypes in his oeuvre. Ryazan Region is the next destination of our tour around regions of Russia. This area, which has long been famous for its rich nature and old monasteries, is in the spotlight of the individual collection of the Presidential Library.

Unique rare editions, electronic copies of which are stored in the Presidential Library collections will help to get familiar with many forgotten, as well as little-known facts from the life of the classic.

The Presidential Library has completed to translate into Russian the main documents of the METS standard (Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard).

April 5, 1242, 776 years ago a decisive battle between the German crusaders and the Russian squad led by Prince Alexander Nevsky, who repulsed the enemy on the ice of the Peipsi Lake near the Crow Stone, took place; it went down in history as the Battle on the Ice. April 22, 2018 marks the 148th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin.

May 3, 2018 marks the 704th anniversary of the birth of Sergius of Radonezh - the ascetic of the Russian land, one of the most revered saints. The Presidential Library's collections include a large number of materials dedicated to the Reverend and tell about his activities for the benefit of the Fatherland.

June 6, 2018 marks the 219th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Pushkin, the great Russian poet, prose writer, playwright, publicist, founder of the Russian realistic trend in literature and the creator of the modern Russian literary language. The Presidential Library portal features electronic collection, which includes digital copies of books, articles, archival documents, abstracts of dissertations, graphic and other materials dedicated to the writer.

On September 11, 1834, in the heart of the capital of the Russian Empire, on Palace Square, the Alexander Column was solemnly opened. Today the Presidential Library features little-known facts about the construction of this famous monument and find out why, after its erection, St. Petersburg residents were afraid to walk along Palace Square.

The Presidential Library celebrates the anniversary of its foundation on May 27 marking the All-Russian Day of Libraries.

260 years ago, on July 9 (June 28, old style), 1762, Catherine II, known in world history as Empress Catherine the Great, ascended the Russian throne.

“I don’t have a single drop of artistic talent… I write novels, similarly to that workman hitting rocks on the highway”, Nikolay Chernyshevsky said about himself. Marking the year of the 320th anniversary of St. Petersburg, the Presidential Library illustrates the history of the main thoroughfare of the city.

The Presidential Library’s portal features the film Sea cadets from Valaam Island dedicated to the feat of the students of the cadet school in the battles on the Nevsky Pyatachok.

This year, April 29 marks the 205th anniversary of the birth of the Russian Emperor Alexander II, popularly called the Liberator. The Presidential Library’s portal features a collection of rare materials about the activities and personal life of the monarch. Digitized editions tell about the upbringing of the future emperor and his personal life and provide an impression of the scale of what he did for his native country and the world.
