Russian Seasons - the annual international project of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation was inaugurated at the Berlin Philharmonic in Germany on January 7, 2019. Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s opera Iolanta and Felix Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 Op. 25 were performed for the guests of the ceremony. On the same day the exhibition “Tchaikovsky. Opera Genius”, dedicated to the history of creation of Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta and other compositions was staged in the philharmonic foyer.

Every year in January, Sofia celebrates the solemn date - liberation from the Ottoman yoke during the Russian-Turkish war in 1877-1878. By tradition, a memorial service was served in the Cathedral of Holy Week in memory of the fallen liberators of Bulgaria. Despite the cold weather, a large number of Sofia citizens gathered to commemorate the Russian soldiers.
