Afanasy Nikitin (?–1475) is a Tver merchant, the first Russian traveler to India, the author of Journey Beyond Three Seas (Journey Beyond Three Seas). In 1469, Nikitin sailed across the Arabian Sea to India, where he spent about 3 years, becoming one of the first Europeans (after Niccolo Conti and 30 years before Vasco da Gama) to reach India.
