Russian Language

The collection dedicated to the Russian language as the state language of the Russian Federation was formed by 1 September 2013 and is constantly being enriched with new materials.

The Russian language is one of the bases of Russian statehood and the culture of the people of our country. It forms and unites the nation, is the language of interethnic communication of the peoples of Russia, as well as one of the languages of international communication. The materials of the collection reflect the main stages of the historical development of the Russian language (from its inception to the present day), research in the field of the Russian language, language learning in educational institutions and as part of self-study, and government policy in the language sphere.

The collection includes manuscripts and publications of Russian writing monuments, archival files, scientific works (including theses and dissertation abstracts), dictionaries and reference books, textbooks of various types and levels.

To form the collection, materials from the collections of the Russian State Library, the N. K. Krupskaya Moscow Regional State Scientific Library, the Federal Guard Service of the Russian Federation, the Russian State Historical Archive, the State Public Historical Library, the Library of Natural Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the A. The digital collection Russian Language is of interest to representatives of the scientific and educational community, linguists, specialists in popularising the Russian language on the Internet, as well as a wide range of users who love and appreciate their native language.

The state of the Russian language

The section includes legislative materials governing the state status of the Russian language in the Russian Federation and reflecting government efforts to support and promote the Russian language abroad, as well as archival documents illustrating the activities of the authorities of the Russian Empire to promote the study of Russian language and its use in paper work in the entire territory of the country.

General section

The section contains documents on the history of linguistics in Russia and on general issues of linguistics. Of particular interest are the works on social, communicative, cognitive functions of the Russian language, which are in close connection with its public function.
History and system of the Russian language

The section contains materials tracing the processes of formation and development of the Russian language, its relation to other languages and its place among them, publications telling about the origin of written language of the Slavs, the establishment and development of the Russian spelling rules and script. One of the sets of the collection includes dictionaries of Russian and Church Slavonic languages.

Monuments of literature

The section contains documents of the 10th – 17th centuries which are of interest from linguistic and historical points of view - chronicles, business documents, works of the Old Russian and translated literature in Russian and Church Slavonic languages. These include digital copies of manuscripts and printed editions, giving an idea of the script of the original and its individual characteristics. The section also comprises the studies of monuments of literature.

History of research and study of the Russian language

The section contains studies on the Russian language, as well as editions on the practical study, didactics and methodology of teaching Russian language (including to those for whom it is a non-native language). The presented materials cover the curricula and programs, the main methods of teaching and learning. The section includes publications of some first grammars of the Russian language by M. Smotritsky and M. V. Lomonosov.
