Exhibition dedicated to heroic deeds of Leningrad paediatricians during siege opened at Presidential Library
On 20 August 2025, the Presidential Library hosted the grand opening of the multimedia exhibition "The Leningrad Regiment of Paediatricians: Guarding Health Despite the War," dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
New additions to Presidential Library's collection. First hundred years of photography in Russia
19 August marks World Photography Day. In anticipation of this date, the Presidential Library invites readers to learn with the book Essays on the History of Photography in the USSR, which has recently been added to the institution's collection. The publication tells the story of the first steps of the greatest invention of the 19th century.
Presidential Library tells History of Creation of Bronze Horseman
On 7 August (18 August according to the new calendar) 1782, a monument to the founder of the city, Emperor Peter I, was unveiled on Senate Square in St. Petersburg. Later, thanks to Alexander Pushkin's famous poem, the sculpture was named "The Bronze Horseman," although it is actually made of bronze.
Films and video lectures presented on Presidential Library's TV channel
The TV Channel section of the Presidential Library portal broadcasts films, video lectures, and webinars prepared by the institution, as well as video tapes from leading domestic film and television studios, around the clock. This means that users from any region of Russia, as well as from any country, can conveniently watch them. Presidential Library tells about history of Staraya Ladoga, first capital of Rus
15 August is the Day of Staraya Ladoga, the first capital of Russia. Here the Russian statehood was born, the world trade routes "from Varangians to Greeks" and "from Varangians to Arabs" passed by, the great cultures of the East and the West met, here the founder of the ruling dynasty of Ancient Russia Rurik started his way and here, according to the Novgorod Chronicle, Prophetic Oleg, Rurik's successor, was buried.
Presidential Library participates in Third Russian-Chinese Library Forum
The Presidential Library participated in the Third Russian-Chinese Library Forum, which is being held on 14 August 2025 at the Pashkov House of the Russian State Library as part of the cross-cultural Years of Culture between Russia and China. The main theme of this year's forum is "Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage: The Experience of Two Countries."
Presidential Library marking 70th anniversary of St. Petersburg Metro
In 1955, the first line of the Leningrad Metro was opened. The first train travelled from Avtovo station to Ploschad Vosstaniya.
New additions to Presidential Library's collection: "People and Masks" by Korney Chukovsky
The Presidential Library portal features a rare edition – Korney Chukovsky's book People and Masks, published by the St. Petersburg publishing house Shipovnik in 1914. During the Soviet era, this book was not republished, as Chukovsky's view of the poets and writers who became the heroes of his essays was too unconventional, sharp and topical.

Presidential Library marks Physical Education worker's Day
9 August 2025 marks Physical Culture Day in Russia. The history of this holiday began in 1939 with a decree by the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR establishing All-Union Physical Culture Day. The date of the holiday changed annually, but in 1961 it was decided to celebrate it on the second Saturday of August.
