The talent of Ilya Repin, artist and writer in the spotlight of the Presidential Library

August 5, 2019 marks the 175th anniversary of the birth of Ilya Repin, a great artist, creator of Russian realism in painting, a member of the Imperial Academy of Arts, who influenced on national painters. They became part of the electronic collection of the Presidential Library “Ilya Repin (1844–1930)”, prepared for the anniversary of the artist.

On the eve of the Day of the Railwayman, which is celebrated on the first Sunday of August, the Presidential Library has the opportunity to present the prominent theorist and practice of the railway industry, using its collections.

August 1, 2019 Smolensk celebrates a landmark anniversary. This day marks 505 years of the accession of the ancient city (which turns 1156 years this year) to the young state of Moscow. During 1513-1514, the troops of the Grand Duke of Moscow Vasily III tried to repel the city from the Lithuanians three times. But two sieges led to nothing. And only the third for many decades made Smolensk the most important outpost of Moscow in the west.

Presidential Library marking birthday of Leningrad Region

Leningrad Region was established on August 1, 1927. The 47th region turns 92. Major collection “Leningrad Region: Pages of History” devoted to is now available on the Presidential Library’s portal, including unique archival documents, photo and video materials on the history, geography and economy of the territory in the 18th - early 20th centuries.  

The history of Russian submarine fleet displayed at the Presidential Library

July 26, 2019, on the eve of the Russia’s Navy Day, the Presidential Library hosts a multimedia exhibition, displaying the first steps of the submarine fleet in the Russian Empire. The electronic exposition organized by the A. I. Marinesko Museum of the History of Russian Submarine Forces and the Presidential Library, will be available until August 9, 2019.

A series of virtual tours now available on the portal of the Presidential Library, is an opportunity to visit four exhibitions of the project “140th Anniversary of Women’s Higher Education in Russia", which was running from October 2 to December 15, 2018. Specialists of the institution teamed up with curators of other expositions to bring together different venues of the city online: St. Petersburg University, the Presidential Library, the ROSPHOTO Museum and Exhibition Center, and the Bestuzhev Courses Library.

Christianization of Rus’ in the spotlight of the Presidential Library

July 28, 2019 marks the 1031st anniversary of Christianization of Rus’ and the 1004th anniversary of the death of Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Prince Vladimir. The portal and the collections of the Presidential Library contain a variety of electronic versions of publications from different years, handwritten texts, research papers, video lectures and radio programs that spotlight Christianization of Rus’.

July 28, 2019 Russia celebrates the Navy Day. The professional holiday of our sailors this year turns 80. It was established in 1939 at the suggestion of Nikolai Gerasimovich Kuznetsov, People's Commissar of the USSR Navy.
