65th Great Victory Anniversary: Rostov-on-Don marks anniversary of liberation from Nazi invaders

16 February 2010

Rostov-on-Don has launched functions, which mark 67th anniversary of the city’s liberation from the Nazi invaders.

City residents laid flowers to the memorial complexes “To fallen soldiers”, “In remembrance of fascism victims”, “Kumzhenskaya roshcha”, “To Heroes-guardsmen liberators of Rostov-on-Don”, “Protectors of Rostov sky”, as well as to the monument of military school students, who perished during Great Patriotic War and other memorials.

The Rostov-on-Don City Administration informs that 83 participants of the city’s liberation campaign live in the city. Each of them has received a lump sum.

Exposition of Great Patriotic War propaganda posters, known as “TASS Windows”, was mounted at the Azov museum-reserve. It displays 22 works, among them is “Victory by Rostov” poster.

Irina Afanasjeva, museum’s senior research fellow, informs that all the exhibits are authentic. They were donated to the museum in 70’s of XX c. by colleagues from Leningrad on the day of its opening. The posters’ titles speak for themselves: “Friendship of three great nations – guarantee of inviolable peace”, “Long live Soviet tankmen”, “Showing a clean pair of heels. Germany’s mood changes”, “Russians in Berlin”, “Glory to our partisans”.

“TASS Windows” posters were a powerful ideological weapon. Some caricaturists of “Kukryniksy” – Mikhail Kupriyanov, Porfiri Krylov, and Boris Yefimov - became worst enemies of Adolf Hitler and in their absence were sentenced to death.
