In 2014 Russia and the world are celebrating the First World War centenary. Russkiy Mir Foundation and Public Administration Faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University have prepared collected essays of the international conference “Russia and Great War: experience and perspectives of comprehension of First World War’s experience in Russia and abroad”. The Great War has become one of the most significant and crucial events not just in 20th c., but rather in the whole human history, playing most dramatic role in the history of our native country. The war, which broke out with a patriotic slogan of the Second Patriotic, with time lead to the strongest polarization of forces, predetermined revolutions, the fratricidal war, country’s split, and resulted into appearance of a new “emigrant” Russia within the Russian world.
Researchers in Russia still have a lot of research tasks to deal with. A large-scale map of the First World War makes it possible to conduct research on different military, political, economic, social, international and diplomatic, ideological issues, which determined many trends of the modern state of our country and the world. Researchers need to conduct comprehensive analysis, adopt different metholodologic approaches, use interdisciplinary methods and compare various viewpoints.
