Digital libraries: “Armenian Virtual Scientific Library” portal unveiled in Yerevan
On November 29th 2011 Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences showed off a new portal “Armenian Virtual Scientific Library”.
“Armenian Virtual Scientific Library” offers over 3 million articles and more than 8 thousand journals of UN Research Life project. The website is the initiative of the National Academy of Sciences Fundamental Library in collaboration with Civilian Research & Development Foundation (CRDF Global).
The Chair of the Committee for Science, Ministry of Education of Armenia - Samvel Harutyunyan mentioned that the new resource would let foreign readers discover the achievements of Armenian scientists.
U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern highlighted that the portal would promote a comprehensive data exchange, while international scientists would enjoy a unique opportunity to familiarize themselves with scientific achievements of Armenia, which had always been in the forefront in regard to science.
“Armenian Virtual Scientific Library” portal (www.ArmeniaVSL.org) will provide access to Armenian scholars to electronic journals and databases in three languages (Armenian, Russian and English).
Some of the virtual library’s materials will be freely available while some will be offered on subscription basis.
