9 марта 2021 года исполняется 87 лет со дня рождения легендарного лётчика-космонавта, Героя Советского Союза Юрия Гагарина (1934–1968). Цифровой фонд Президентской библиотеки содержит уникальные материалы, посвящённые его жизни и подвигу. Многие из них вошли в коллекцию «Открытый космос», включающую в себя фрагменты кинохроники, периодику, книги, открытки, памятные медали и значки, отразившие различные вехи развития космонавтики.

И первым приобрёл этот статус наш соотечественник Юрий Гагарин.

The Omsk Children's Library "Book Galaxy" launched the "Cosmodrome" Scientific Space. It is a part of the Youth Council's project "Omsk Municipal Libraries", financed by a municipal grant. As organizers state, a comfortable Scientific Space created on the new library platform was intended for school students keen on science.

The name of cosmonaut № 2 is forever inscribed in the history of world cosmonautics: he became the first person who spent more than 25 hours in orbit, or rather, a day, an hour and 18 minutes. The 55th anniversary of space flight of Valentina Tereshkova, the world's first woman-cosmonaut is celebrated on June 16 2018. The legendary “Chaika” (Seagull) performed the orbital flight on the “Vostok-6” spacecraft. For more than 2 days had her call sign sounded from space. To celebrate this memorial historical date the Museum of Cosmonautics (Moscow) has prepared a series of special projects and exhibitions to spotlight the life of this heroic woman.

Alexey Leonov performed the first spacewalk in the world four years after Yuri Gagarin's historic flight into Earth orbit.
