A movie entitled “10 peaks of Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky” was added to the Presidential Library stock

A movie about the famous Russian scientist entitled “10 Peaks of Pyotr Semenov-Tyan-Shansky” was added to the Presidential Library stock. The film, which was awarded with a special prize of the library at the international cinema forum named “World of Knowledge,” which was held in St. Petersburg, was handed to the library by one of its filmmakers, the head and director of the “Hors-Media” producer center Olga Drozdova.

The exhibition “Heights of Russian Drama” is open in the Reading Room of the Molchanov-Sibirsky Irkutsk Regional State Universal Research Library. The modern theater owes much of its success to the Russian classical drama. The exhibition presents materials, which spotlight the history of Russian drama, the best dramatic works of Russian writers that have entered the world theater treasury.

On July 18th, 2024, the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing will host the grand opening of the exhibition Bouquet of Peaks: The Great Mountains of the World, organized by the Russian Geographical Society. The exhibition features portraits of 14 of the highest peaks on our planet, showcasing the beauty and diversity of mountain landscapes.

The USSR flag hoisted on the western peak of Elbrus instead of the Nazi banner during the Battle of the Caucasus

On February 13, 1943 during the counter-offensive of Soviet troops in the Battle of the Caucasus, a group of Soviet climbers led by N. A. Gusak removed the Nazi banner and standards of the 1st Wehrmacht Mountain Division “Edelweiss” from the western peak of Elbrus, hoisting the USSR flag in their place. On February 17, a group of climbers led by A. M. Gusev planted the Soviet flag on the eastern peak.

As part of this project, on April 3, the Presidential Library hosted a multimedia lesson entitled “Kotlin Island: from the glacial moraine to new heights of hospitality in St. Petersburg” which continued the series “The Origins of St. Petersburg Hospitality: Events, People, Places”. It involved senior pupils from St. Petersburg schools.
