Zhitkov’s grandfather participated in the Patriotic War of 1812, got injured in the Battle of Borodino, fought for the liberation of Europe, rose to the rank of Major General. His father was a military engineer, defended Sevastopol during the Crimean War, and was awarded state orders for bravery.

January 27, 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi siege. By this date, the Presidential Library’s collections entered with new materials from the family archives of the Ivanov-Rozhnovskys, Malakhovs, and Kulikovs. These are documents, photographs, letters, memories and diaries of residents of the besieged city. The materials are available on the library's portal and can be accessed from anywhere in the world.
