October 1 marks the International Music Day, established on the initiative of the International Music Council of UNESCO in 1973. One of the ideological inspirers of this holiday was the Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich. He wrote an open letter to the United Nations, in which he asked to create the Music Day and therefore spotlight the significant role of music in the unity of peoples and exchange of cultural experience.

This year marks the 140th anniversary of the events that have become fateful in the life of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, whose birthday the entire music world celebrates on May 7. In 1878, the composer completed the creation of his most important masterpiece - the opera “Eugene Onegin”, and put an end to his relationship with his wife, Antonina Ivanovna Milyukova. On May 7, 2019, the musical world celebrates the 179th birthday of Pyotr Tchaikovsky. This year is very special for admirers of the composer's works - at the end of March exactly 140 years have passed since the first production of one of Tchaikovsky's main masterpieces - the opera Eugene Onegin. The composer worked on it in Russia, Switzerland, Italy, France... Despite the composer’s doubts, the work won popular affections immediately.
