Caring husbands, affectionate fathers – Russian personalities in the Presidential Library’s collections

May 15 traditionally marks an International Family Day, established by the UN General Assembly in 1993. The Presidential Library’s collections contain a large number of materials that feature outstanding people from the informal side. Through letters, memoirs of contemporaries, we can see them through the eyes of loved ones, understand how they were at home, how they felt about their people.

Libraries of Russia: Bibliographical rarities displayed at the State Theater Library

The manuscript of the Moliere's "School for Husbands", dated 1754, is one of the rarities featured at "Jean-Baptiste Moliere - France's greatest playwright" Exhibition which opened on April 3, 2012 at the State Theatre Library (St. Petersburg). The institution dates back to 1756 and is the oldest theater libraries in the country.

Memory of Russia: The monument “Farewell of Slavianka” solemnly opened in Moscow

On the square of the Belarusian railway station in Moscow on May 8, 2014 was solemnly opened a monument to "Farewell of Slavianka", which symbolizes the legendary eponymous march of Russian and Soviet armies and memorializes the heroism of women accompanied their husbands, brothers and sons off to war.

Literary readings dedicated to the 275th anniversary of Gavriil Romanovich Derzhavin were held in Baku

The school-lyceum of the Baku Slavic University in the framework of the project of the Russian Information and Cultural Center in Baku "Literary Lounge" hosted the readings "And the lyricist, and the satirist, and the state husband" dedicated to the 275th anniversary of the Russian poet, public figure Gavriil Romanovich Derzhavin.

The Presidential Library tells about the fate of the wives of the Decembrists

11 women went to hard labor and settlement in Siberia, following their husbands who took part in the 1825 uprising on Senate Square in St. Petersburg. The “voluntary exiles” were young, belonged to the most worthy families in Russia and firmly believed in the oath of fidelity given to the spouse during the wedding sacrament.

He was an outstanding personality who left a noticeable mark on the development of social philosophy, literary criticism and literature. He was also a gentle romantic, sincerely and selflessly devoted and loving husband according to the Presidential Library’s materials.
