On September 16, 2021, the Presidential Library hosted a video lecture entitled Nature in the Artistic World of Fyodor Dostoevsky as part of the Knowledge of Russia project. The event was the seventh in the series of lectures Fyodor Dostoevsky – the Conversation about the Values, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of the world-famous writer, which will be celebrated on November 11, 2021.

The Presidential Library spotlights the Battle of Chesme

In 2021 the Russian fleet turns 325 years old. The Russian navy has won glorious victories more than once and one of them was the victory in the Battle of Chesme, which took place on July 5-7 (June 24-26 according to the old style) in 1770. More information about this battle is available on the Presidential Library's portal in the large-scale collection The House of Romanov. The Zemsky Sobor of 1613, which features historical research dedicated to the reign of Empress Catherine II.

Media contest supported by the Presidential Library to show color of the North Caucasus

We continue to accept applications for the V All-Russian annual media contest Kavkaz.doc, designed to capture the North Caucasus in all its manifestations. The contest is supported by the Presidential Library, the Head and Government of Karachay-Cherkessia. This is a large-scale, already traditional event of the first in the North Caucasus information and educational center of the Presidential Library based on the republican TV channel of Karachay-Cherkessia Arkhyz 24.

The Presidential Library multimedia contest to unite Russia and Germany

The acceptance of works for the IX International Annual Multimedia Contest "Foreign View" is going on. The contest provides a new nomination - "Russia through the eyes of the Germans, Germany through the eyes of the Russians". Photo and video works are accepted for participation. The exhibition Dreams of Siberia, telling about the ancient and medieval past of Ural, Siberia and the Far East, opens in the State Historical Museum (Moscow) on October 28, 2022. On April 19, 1943 the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR issued Decree No. 39 “On punishment measures for Nazi villains guilty of killing and torturing the Soviet civilian population and captured Red Army soldiers, for spies, traitors to the motherland from among Soviet citizens and for their accomplices”. On May 17, 2023 the Presidential Library hosted a screening of a new documentary "Vivid Hymn to the Fatherland" filmed with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives. The film tells about the unique 12-volume edition "Picturesque Russia", which was published at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, becoming perhaps the most significant milestone in the history of Russian book printing.

Birth of Aleksandr Trifonovich Tvardovsky, Soviet Writer, Poet and Journalist

Aleksandr Trifonovich Tvardovsky was born on June 8 (21), 1910 in the village of Zagorye, Smolensk Governorate (now Pochinkovsky district, Smolensk Region) in the family of the blacksmith Trifon Gordeyevich Tvardovsky and Maria Mitrofanovna, nee Pleskachevskaya. The family was literate, at home they read aloud the works of Pushkin, Gogol, Lermontov, Nekrasov. Aleksandr studied at a rural school and began writing poetry early in life.

Traditionally, on the first Sunday of August, Russia celebrates the Day of the Railway Worker - a professional holiday when employees of the railway industry are honored. This year it falls on August 6. The history of the holiday is associated with Emperor Nicholas I, who is rightly called the founder of the railway business in Russia.
