On October 19 (31 according to the new style), 1811 the Imperial Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum was solemnly opened in Tsarskoye Selo. It was founded for the noble "youth, especially intended for important parts of the state service". The opening was attended by the emperor with his family, senior dignitaries and cultural figures.

On March 28 (New style), 1693, Andrei Konstantinovich Nartov was born. He was a personal turner, engineer, mechanic, and inventor, as well as the inventor of the lathe. Information about Nartov has been added to the Outstanding Scientists and Inventors of the 18th Century section of the Great Russia project, which is implemented by the Presidential Library.

Mikhail Romanov, the founder of the dynasty that had been ruling Russia for 304 years, was born on July 22 (12 according to the old style) July 1596 in Moscow, in the Romanov boyar family. His father Fyodor is a cousin of the last ruler from the Rurikovich clan, and his mother is Kostroma noblewoman Ksenia Shestova.

July 8 (June 27 according to the old style) 1709, the Russian army under the command of Tsar Peter I defeated the Swedish army of King Charles XII in the Battle of Poltava. It not only turned the tide of the Northern War (1700-1721), but also changed the place and role of the Russian Empire in the European arena.
